We will see another ‘killer dapp’ in 2 years

Reaching parity with web 3.0

In 2018, there were significant advancements in layer two scaling (state channels, side chains), gas abstraction (meta-txs, CREATE2, counterfactual deployment) and key management (universal logins, ERC725s). Infrastructure protocols such as Maker and FOAM are in production, TCRs are live, ENS is live, DAOs are possible — we have begun to hit an acceleration point in the increasing number of possible product possibilities.

Recognising this turning point, I believe innovation in the ecosystem will no longer be held by back engineering but rather by our collective product understanding of web 3.0 early adopters: the impact of web3 on their lives, how early adopters decide to engage with various aspects of web3, why users do so in such a way and how such understandings change over time.. etc.

Similar to how mobile changed the world, it was non-obvious in the beginning in how it would do so. We have only begun to also observe similar emergent behaviours and clues pertaining to the nature of web 3.0 — especially in respects to how it will foreseeably influence us socially and financially. Experimentation and sharing what we learn in the process will be core to achieving this as an ecosystem.
